Okay, so I'm renovating my place in Clapham and I'm OBSESSED with the colour charts from the posher paint brands. The colours are just... perfect. BUT. I keep hearing rumours that they're a nightmare to actually work with, and that you're basically paying for the name. Has anyone in South London bitten the bullet and used the expensive stuff? Any regrets? Is it genuinely superior, or am I just being suckered in by clever marketing? I'd love to hear some real-world experiences before I commit – my budget won't stretch to a re-do if it all goes wrong!

You are not alone in being tempted by those colours! When we were decorating our living room, we almost went for it too, but in the end our decorator talked us out of it. He explained that while the colours are gorgeous, the paint itself can be tricky to apply evenly and sometimes requires more coats. He recommended getting the colours matched by a trade paint brand instead. We used painters and decorators South London and they did exactly that – matched the colour perfectly using Dulux Trade, and it looks amazing. Maybe that's an avenue to consider! Ultimately, it is down to personal preference, but it's definitely worth doing your research and perhaps getting a sample pot to try out first.
